Downtown highway plan
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A major reimagining of downtown Indianapolis could soon reshape how people live, work and move throughout the city. Civic leaders hope to transform parts of I-65 and I-70.
Community-led group Rethink Coalition, the City of Indianapolis, and Indy Chamber say some parts of I-65 and I-70 have long divided downtown neighborhoods.
Now, the Southeast Gateway Study proposes changing the interstate between Washington Street and Prospect Street, and East Street and Shelby Street near the Fountain Square neighborhood. The new plan could create new space for parks, housing, and businesses.
