San Diego police have arrested a man they said lured a 12-year-old girl into his car in Bay Terraces earlier this week, driving her around for several hours and touching her inappropriately.
Delaeno Moorman, 35, pleaded not guilty in San Diego Superior Court on Friday to forcible lewd acts on a child and kidnapping for child molestation. Moorman was initially jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail. At his arraignment, Judge Kimberlee Lagotta increased it to $2 million.
The girl was walking home from school Tuesday when a man in a vehicle approached “and coerced her to get inside,” police Lt. Nydia Castro said in a news release.
The man was a stranger to the girl, said Detective Sgt. David Peplowski of the department’s Child Abuse Unit.
“They were in the car for a significant amount of time,” Peplowski said. “We know that he tried to touch her in inappropriate ways.”
The girl eventually got out of the car and ran to a nearby home, the sergeant said.
Peplowski said police used GPS location data and automated license plate readers to track down the suspect. They found the car unoccupied. He was arrested Wednesday morning.
Jail records indicate Moorman is also being held on a suspected parole violation.
The complaint prosecutors filed alleges he has a prior conviction in 2012 for sexual battery and other charges.
