Man dies after vehicle strikes tree, rolls into Escondido backyard

A Valley Center man died early Sunday morning in Escondido after his vehicle struck a roadside tree and rolled into the backyard of a nearby home, authorities said.

The  22-year-old driver was eastbound on El Norte Parkway about 3:24 a.m. near Lincoln Avenue when police said he lost control of his vehicle.  No other motorists were involved, and no witnesses have been identified.

The driver’s name will not be released until after his family members are notified, police said.

Police said it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision.
