MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — A 46-year-old Jamestown, Tennessee, man was sentenced to 69 years in prison Wednesday for killing a Muncie man and dumping his body off a cliff in Tennessee in 2016.
Delaware County Circuit Court Judge John M. Feick sentenced Ian J. Shelden after a jury convicted him on April 30 of murder, obstruction of justice and auto theft.
Prosecutors said Shelden killed 55-year-old Mark Trent with a tent stake after a dispute at Trent’s home in the 3600 block of West 32nd Street. Shelden cleaned the scene, put the body in a plastic tote and drove to Tennessee, where he dumped the remains off a mountain overhang.
Trent was reported missing March 31, 2016, after not contacting family for a month. Police found his dogs abandoned and his Dodge Ram pickup missing. Investigators linked Shelden to the crime through ATM footage of him using Trent’s bank card.
