MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — A man was sentenced to 84 years in prison Wednesday for attempting to kill a police officer.
According to a release sent by Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, 50-year-old Trenton Patterson was sentenced on Tuesday for the following:
- Two counts of attempted murder, a top-level felony.
- Criminal recklessness with a firearm, a low-level felony.
- Unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a low-level felony.
- Resisting law enforcement, a misdemeanor.
On Feb. 15, 2024, just before 8 p.m., Officer Adam Curtis of the Daleville Police Department pulled over a white sedan on Spring Street near Main Street/State Road 32 in Daleville. When Curtis approached the vehicle, he found Patterson in the passenger seat, someone else was driving the car.
When asked to identify himself, Patterson gave the officer a fake name. Curtis then returned to his vehicle where he verified Patterson’s identity, as well as his active warrants. He called for backup before reapproaching the vehicle.
