Lonoke, AR – A central Arkansas sheriff’s race has drawn national attention after candidate Aaron Spencer won a Republican primary while facing a second-degree murder charge in the fatal shooting of a man accused of sexually abusing his teenage daughter.

Spencer, 37, secured just over 53 percent of the vote in Lonoke County’s March 2026 primary, defeating the incumbent sheriff despite an ongoing criminal case tied to an October 2024 confrontation.
