INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Marion County Sheriff Kerry Forestal has announced he is running for the Indiana Senate.

Forestal is running in District 31 on the Democratic Party ticket. That district covers Lawrence, Fishers and the Geist Lake area.

Republican state Sen. Kyle Walker is not seeking another term.

Forestal is unable to run for another term as sheriff due to statewide term limits for the elected position.

He was a U.S. marshal for the Southern District of Indiana before he was elected Marion County sheriff.
