INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Martin University will suspend its operations at the end of the current semester, according to an announcement made Wednesday by the Board of Trustees.
A news release issued Wednesday afternoon said the decision came as the university faces significant financial difficulties and a decline in student enrollment. As News 8 reported last week, the university planned to pause its operations at the end of the current semester due to financial difficulties and a decrease in student enrollment.
A calendar from the university shows its last day of classes was scheduled for Dec. 13 at the campus at 2186 N. Sherman Drive.
Founded in 1977, Martin University is recognized as Indiana’s only Predominantly Black Institution.
The board says it will explore ways to continue the university’s mission of providing education to its diverse student body.
