A young boy police had been looking for following a shooting in the Glover Park neighborhood of D.C. that killed a woman and injured a 12-year-old girl has been located.
D.C. police had issued an Amber Alert for the 3-year-old following a shooting that killed his mother. The boy was found safe in Prince George’s County.
The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon on the 4100 block of W Street NW. Police found the woman shot several times and she was pronounced dead. They also found a 12-year-old girl who was shot in the arm and taken to the hospital, and an 8-year-old boy, who was not injured.
During the investigation, Interim D.C. police Chief Jeffery Carroll said a 3-year-old boy was also missing. Police posted the Amber Alert on social media for the boy later Wednesday evening, asking the public for help finding him.
Police said the suspect in the shooting was identified as Stephon Jeter, 35. Carroll said at a news conference after the shooting that Prince George’s County police saw Jeter’s pickup truck and chased it into D.C. The vehicle crashed around 30th and Nash Place, Carroll said.
Police found Jeter inside the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and no sign of the 3-year-old.
