MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH-TV) — Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour (R) will return to work as the city’s chief executive on Wednesday, the city announced in a Tuesday Facebook post.
Ridenour, midway through his second term in office, has been away from City Hall for prostate cancer treatment for six weeks. Deputy Mayor Jeff Howe has filled in for him during that time.
“Mayor Ridenour has made tremendous progress in his recovery, and we are excited to welcome him back to City Hall,” the city’s Facebook post read. “We extend our sincere gratitude to Deputy Mayor Jeff Howe for his leadership while serving as acting executive, as well as to our dedicated department heads and city employees whose continued commitment ensured residents received the high level of service they expect.”
Ridenour, 66, announced his cancer diagnosis in April, beginning his medical leave soon after.
When asked for his thoughts on returning, he said he was “looking forward to getting back to working for Muncie.”
