Newport News police seek public’s help identifying robbery suspect

Incident at Jefferson Avenue store involved assault on employee, police say.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Newport News Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in an attempted robbery and assault at a retail store along Jefferson Avenue.

The incident occurred Friday, February 13, at the Burlington Coat Factory located in the 12100 block of Jefferson Avenue. According to Newport News police, officers were later dispatched after store employees reported the incident, which involved a suspect attempting to steal merchandise before assaulting an employee.
