INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Lawyers representing a 5-year-old student in Indianapolis Public Schools and his parent have filed an intention to sue the district over abuse allegations.
Attorneys Catherine Michael of Carmel-based Connell Michael LLP and Tammy Meyer of Metzger Rostaon Monday announced the tort claim.
Attorneys accused a teacher at Washington Irving Neighborhood School 14 of physical and verbal abuse of an autistic, nonverbal kindergartener. The facility is an IPS Innovation Network School serving preschool through fifth grade. It’s at 1250 E. Market St., just east of the downtown area near the I-65/I-70 interchange for Washington Street.
Lawyers pointed to multiple incidents in August, September and October with witnesses, including one they say was caught on camera.
The attorneys also say IPS failed to notify the parent of the abuse.
News 8 reached out to IPS for comment, and a spokesman said the district was processing the request.
