MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Police arrested a man Tuesday night following a shooting and a high-speed chase that spanned two counties and ended in Beech Grove, the Martinsville Police Department said.

The shooting happened about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of South Home Avenue, west of the Martinsville High School athletic fields.

Medics took the man who was shot to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. Police did not provide details on what led to the shooting or identify the man who was shot. The arrested man also was not named.

Callers to 911 identified the shooter and described his car and his direction of travel before he fled the area.

A Martinsville police officer spotted the car near the intersection of Interstate 69 and Henderson Ford Road. Officers and Morgan County sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the car on I-69 just north of State Road 144, but the driver sped away.

The driver led police east onto Interstate 465 before abandoning the car and running away near the Emerson Avenue interchange. After a brief search, Indianapolis Metropolitan police found and arrested the man in Beech Grove.

Police said there is no ongoing danger to the public.
