Homicide investigators have identified a 41-year-old man who was killed over the weekend in a downtown stabbing as a San Diego resident.
Mark Thomas, 41, was stabbed multiple times on a sidewalk outside Hotel Churchill near Eighth and C streets around 9:23 p.m. Saturday, San Diego police homicide Lt. Maggi said.
Officers who arrived were told the assailant had run into his nearby apartment and attempted to start a fire, Maggi said.
Officers forced their way into the apartment and used a police dog to take 34-year-old Grant Parker into custody, investigators said.
Parker was taken to a hospital before he was booked into jail on suspicion of murder.
The relationship between the two men, as well as details about the events leading up to the stabbing, was not immediately available.
