Victim wounded as police search for man in Newark shooting

NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s help locating a man wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting in Newark.

Police identified the individual as Nahji Mayes, 29, of Newark.

The shooting occurred around 8:46 p.m. on March 20 near Baldwin Avenue and Clinton Avenue.

Officers arriving at the scene found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to University Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Detectives are continuing to investigate and are seeking Mayes for questioning in connection with the incident.
