San Diego Unified still has preschool spots open

Families with 3-year-olds in the county can enroll their children in San Diego Unified School District’s preschool for the remainder of the school year.

“Preschool gives young children the opportunity, encouragement, and structure they need to thrive while introducing them to learning, socialization, and exploration,” Santos Gonzalez, San Diego Unified director of early learning, said in a news release.

The district has two no-cost programs for families.

The California State Preschool Program requires attendance for five days a week, and families, based on availability, can enroll in morning or afternoon sessions. 

The program has income requirements.

The district also has School Readiness, which does not have income requirements, and attendance is only four days a week. Based on availability, families can enroll in morning or afternoon sessions.

Spokesperson James Canning said via email there are 219 seats available, as of Friday. There is no deadline, and the seats are available until they are filled.
