SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) –The Shelbyville Common Council on Wednesday night delayed the annexation of land tied to a data center project.

The council continued the motion at its meeting and is expected to take it up again in February.

Earlier this month, the council voted to move ahead with plans to annex land near I-74 and State Road 44. California-based real estate investment trust company Prologis presented a proposal for a data center on the land.

The council’s actions come after thousands signed a petition opposing the data center plan. They expressed environmental and health concerns.
