Strong El Niño likely to keep sharks near SoCal longer

Warmer ocean temperatures driven by a strong El Niño are expected to keep sharks near Southern California coasts later into the season than usual. Experts anticipate increased sightings of juvenile white sharks, hammerheads, and other species due to record-breaking water temperatures. This climatic shift has also prompted new protections for endangered loggerhead sea turtles affected by the Pacific heatwave.
