Suspect shot by accomplice during attempted necklace theft in Midtown: NYPD

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – A suspect was shot by one of his accomplices during an attempted necklace theft in Midtown on April 28, according to the NYPD.

The attempted robbery happened near 12th Avenue and West 50th Street around 4:25 a.m. Three men allegedly got out of a white vehicle, tackled a 35-year-old man and tried to take his necklace, according to authorities.

One of the suspects opened fire when the victim tried to get away and shot an accomplice, identified as 21-year-old Benny Polanco, in the left leg and chest, police said.

The men then got back into the white vehicle and fled the scene. The victim wasn't injured and his necklace wasn't stolen, according to authorities.
