Teenager arrested after I-65 chase with Indiana State Police

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana State Police have arrested a teenager following a multi-mile long chase Friday according to a Saturday press release.

After 7:30 p.m. Friday, a state trooper were patrolling I-65 near State Road 26 in Lafayette when he attempted to stop 18-year-old Christopher Shipp for not having a license plate. Shipp did not stop so the trooper started a chase.

The chase continued down I-65 southbound until Shipp got off onto State Road 28. Shipp continued down the road. The troopers were able to use a device to deflate Shipp’s tires.

Shipp turned around to get back on I-65 northbound. Troopers used a PIT maneuver making Shipp exit the roadway of the I-65 entrance ramp.

Shipp then tried to drive the wrong way down the ramp nearly hitting a state trooper. Shipp did hit a state police vehicle and continued to flee.

Police used another PIT maneuver to finally get Shipp to stop. Shipp was arrested without incident.

Police found THC devices and found evidence that Shipp was operating under the influence of a controlled substance. Shipp was taken to the Clinton County Jail.

Shipp was preliminarily charged with the following:

  • Attempted Battery Against a Public Safety Official (Two Counts).
  • Criminal Confinement (Two Counts).
  • Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle.
