TELL CITY, Ind. (WISH) — Two people in their 30s were arrested Friday after an unresponsive 2-year-old boy died Tuesday at a home in a southern Indiana city on the Ohio River, police said.

Trevor Reichard-Hayes, 39 and Katherine Carter, 31, face preliminary charges of murder and neglect in connection to the death of Erik Reichard, the Tell City Police Department said in a Friday social media post. Online court records did not show cases filed against the pair on Friday night.

Police were called to a report of an unresponsive child just before 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the first block of Guttenberg Lane in Tell City, a Perry County city of 7,500 residents.

Police said investigators from the department and county agencies were at the home for several days.

Two other children were removed from the home following the death of Reichard, with the help of the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Reichard-Hayes and Carter remained in the Perry County jail on Friday night.

The police department’s post did not indicate a relationship, if any, between Reichard-Hayes, Katherine Carter and the child.
