Tornado warnings issued after 39 Indiana counties put under a tornado watch

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Much of the southern half of Indiana, including Indianapolis, was under a tornado watch from the National Weather Service until 9 p.m. Thursday, and at least 12 tornado warnings were issued in the state.

Indianapolis was among five counties added to the watch area about 6:21 p.m. Six other counties near Indianapolis were added to the watch area shortly after 4:20 p.m. Thursday. The initial watch was issued shortly after noon Thursday.

Counties in the watch area were: Bartholomew, Brown, Clark, Clay, Crawford, Daviess, Dearborn, Decatur, Dubois, Floyd, Franklin, Gibson, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Hendricks, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Lawrence, Marion, Martin, Monroe, Morgan, Ohio, Orange, Owen, Parke, Perry, Pike, Posey, Putnam, Ripley, Scott, Shelby, Spencer, Sullivan, Switzerland, Vanderburgh, Vigo, Warrick and Washington. Parts of Kentucky and Illinois were also in the watch area.
