Inmate attempts to escape with in hospital
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says it charged an inmate at the county jail with escape after he tried to flee custody while at a hospital.
According to a release about the charges, 36-year-old Connor Spachtholz, of Columbus, was taken from the jail to an area hospital for observation on Tuesday.
Around 3:30 p.m., Spachtholz asked to use the bathroom and to shower. He was secured in leg shackles and led in.
Sometime after, the deputy assigned to watch Spachtholz says he heard a “loud crash” from the bathroom. Going in to check on Spachtholz, the deputy noticed multiple ceiling tiles torn and on the floor, a hanging light, and a section of broken drywall.
