Wabash National to close Goshen facility, affecting 144 workers

GOSHEN, Ind. (WISH) — Lafayette, Indiana-based Wabash National Services will close its northern Indiana manufacturing facility in Goshen, resulting in the permanent layoff of 144 workers, according to a notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Layoffs will begin March 6 at the facility at 2572 E. Kercher Road. The job cuts will happen in phases. Jobs to be cut include 59 assemblers and 15 welder positions.

Wabash designs and produces dry freight vans, refrigerated vans, platform trailers, liquid tank trailers and other products, according to online information.

All manufacturing will eventually cease, and the workforce is not represented by any union, the notice said.

The Elkhart County city of Goshen, with 34,100 residents, is about a 40-minute drive east of downtown South Bend.
