On Jan. 17, 1893, the Hawaiian Kingdom was overthrown in a move that disregarded the rights and sovereignty of Native Hawaiians. Kumu Puakea Nogelmeier, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi translator and preservationist, has spent decades uncovering and translating Hawaiian language sources that document the period.
