INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — 47-year-old Kenneth Johnson is accused of shooting and killing one police officer and injuring another Monday night in Beech Grove.

According to Indiana State Police, Officer Brian Elliot and another unknown officer from Beech Grove Police Department were called to Beech Meadow apartment complex on Diplomatic Court on reports of a domestic disturbance call around 6 p.m.

Officers were met by Johnson and another subject at the doorway of the apartment, where they were both shot.

The suspect fled on foot and for several hours, officers from multiple agencies searched the area.

A community member noticed something amiss in a laundry room in a different apartment building in the same area of the incident. That’s where officers found Johnson hiding. At approximately 10:17 p.m. the suspect was taken into custody by members of the IMPD SWAT.

Officer Brian Elliot died from his injuries late Monday night. The other officer is in stable condition and was released from Eskenazi Hospital Tuesday afternoon.

According to online court records, Johnson has been booked on preliminary charges of murder and attempted murder.
