Woman accused of stealing purse from car then withdrawing $13K from bank accounts
ITHACA, N.Y. — State police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman accused of stealing a purse from a parked vehicle and later withdrawing thousands of dollars from bank accounts.
Investigators said the theft happened on March 19 when the suspect allegedly broke into a vehicle in an Ithaca parking lot and took a purse that had been left in plain view.
The purse contained the victim’s identification, checkbook and credit cards.
Authorities said the following day, the same suspect traveled to two Cayuga Lake National Bank locations in Cayuga County, where she is believed to have used the victim’s identification to withdraw a total of $13,500.
Police released images of the suspect and are urging anyone who recognizes her to come forward.
