SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC4) -- An 18-year-old man was killed in what officials are calling a tragic incident at the Mt. Olympus trailhead in unincorporated Salt Lake County.
The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, authorities received gunfire at the trailhead. Upon arrival, a man identified as Naod Welday, 18, was found dead.
Investigators say he suffered "multiple fatal gunshot wounds."
"We are committed to finding those responsible for this senseless act of violence," said Sheriff Rosie Rivera. "Our detectives are working tirelessly to gather evidence and follow up on leads."
The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Sheriff's Office by calling 385-468-8788.
