2 people rescued from second-floor fire in Winchester

WINCHESTER, Ind. — Two people were rescued after becoming trapped on the second floor of a Winchester building during a fire Monday.

The Winchester Fire Department was called to the 100 block of West Washington Street, where firefighters found heavy flames coming from the front of the building’s second floor.

Firefighters used a deck gun to quickly knock down the initial flames.

Crews then discovered two people trapped on the second floor. With assistance from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, firefighters positioned a ladder at a second-story window, allowing both people to escape safely.

Randolph County EMS transported the two people to a local hospital for evaluation. No information about their conditions was immediately available.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Winchester Fire Department was assisted by the White River, Farmland and Lynn fire departments, Randolph County EMS, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and Winchester Police Department.
