8 FEMA mobile centers set to open to assist Indiana storm victims

(WISH) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Friday will open six of its eight planned mobile registration centers to help people apply for aid following mid-August storms that brought a derecho, widespread power outages and flooding to Indiana, the state’s Department of Homeland Security said Thursday.

The centers will serve as temporary, in-person locations where teams will help people submit their initial applications for federal assistance. Staff from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security will also be available to make sure residents are registered for 211 services.

Officials said residents do not need to bring any specific documentation to register. No appointments are required, and residents can walk up during the scheduled operating hours.

The registration center will follow a major disaster declaration from the Trump administration, which approved millions of dollars in federal aid for 21 Indiana counties. Gov. Mike Braun announced the approval Tuesday night in a news release.
