SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- The opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics was held in Paris, France, on Friday, featuring performances from Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, and the metal band Gojira -- but some Utah officials are speaking out about a different performance that has since sparked controversy.
During the four-hour ceremony, drag queens took the stage and appeared to recreate the Leonardo da Vinci painting "The Last Supper" at one point during the show.
While many viewers interpreted that part of the performance as a reference to da Vinci, the Olympic Games -- on its official Twitter/X account -- posted on the day of the performance that it was a reference to the Greek god Dionysus.
