ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Local and state leaders visited small businesses along 11th Avenue to highlight local industry and enable business owners to discuss the state's "Main Street Matters" program.
Representatives from the Shapiro Administration and the Department of Community and Economic Development, which administers the program, participated in the tour.
"Why do main streets matter? I'll tell you why they matter is because here in Blair County, we have five to six Main Street communities. Main Streets are not only an economic generator where small business reside, but they're also part of our community fabric," Steve McKnight, CEO of Altoona Blair County Development Corporation, said.
"Main Street Matters" builds on existing downtown development programs to support businesses already in the area while bringing new industry and new housing opportunities into communities.
In total, the program has invested $25 million statewide.
