MOUNT COMFORT, Ind. (WISH) — An Anderson man died on Wednesday afternoon when a van fell off a jack, pinning him partially underneath, at a cabinet top factory near the Indianapolis Regional Airport, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Hancock County Sheriff deputies were dispatched about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday to the Formica Corp. at 6579 W 350 N in rural Greenfield. They found 70-year-old Duane Hodson pinned under a van he was trying to repair.
Hodson was reportedly using the jack to change a flat tire on the van when it fell. A bystander lifted the van with a forklift, which allowed first responders to pull Hodson from underneath the van.
Despite their efforts, Hodson died just after 6 p.m. at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis due to internal injuries sustained from the van.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Buck Creek Fire Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
