LITTLE ROCK, Ark, - The group behind a proposed abortion amendment said they are “outraged” after the Office of Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston rejected petition signatures submitted by the group for the ballot measure.
On Wednesday, Thurston informed the group, Arkansans for Limited Government (AFLG), that although they submitted 101,525 signatures, more than enough signatures to get the initiative on the November ballot, Thurston’s office has deemed a portion of them invalid, putting them below the 90,704-signature requirement.
Thurston said the group failed to follow the law by not submitting a statement identifying paid canvassers by name and a signed statement noting that they had given paid canvassers documents outlining rules before they started gathering signatures.
Gennie Diaz with AFLG said right now the group is relying on their legal team to counsel them on the best path forward.
