Arkansas State Police identify man shot and killed by Bentonville police officer

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a shooting where a Bentonville officer shot an alleged assault suspect on Thursday night.

A news release said Bentonville police responded to a disturbance call around 6 p.m. at Southwest Castlewood Street.

Officer Omri-Andrew Nutt located a suspect, identified as Nathaniel Crabtree, 37 on Sandrock Road. Bentonville police previously said the suspect was involved in an alleged assault.

During the incident, Nutt shot Crabtree and he was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, according to the release.

Nutt started working at the Bentonville Police Department in January 2022 and has been placed on administrative leave, as is standard protocol.

"ASP CID agents will prepare an investigative file to be submitted to the Benton County Prosecuting Attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by the officer was consistent with Arkansas laws," the release said.
