Authorities investigate police shooting in La Jolla

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The Homicide Unit with the San Diego Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting in La Jolla that involved San Diego police, authorities confirmed to FOX 5/KUSI.

The incident took place just before 7 a.m. in the 5400 block of La Jolla Boulevard, more specifically in the area of the CVS drugstore at the roundabout.

It's unconfirmed at this time whether the victim was an officer or a suspect. The nature of the person's injuries were not immediately released.

Authorities are encouraging the public to avoid the area if possible.
