BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Crews from Baldwin EMC returned home on Wednesday afternoon after heading to Florida to assist with power outages from what was once Hurricane Debby.
Talquin Electric Cooperative requested help restoring electricity to about 21,000 homes in Quincy, Fla. after the storm came through the area.
However, in Quincy, flooding wasn't the issue — it was the tree damage caused by the storm. Knocking down power lines and blocking busy roads, fallen trees were responsible for many of the power outages.
"Just a bunch of trees in the roadway was down. That's mainly what caused the outages in our area that we were at," Baldwin EMC Journeyman Lineman Kenny Foley said.
Foley said that when they arrived, the conditions were pretty bad and the crews were dealing with strong winds, rain and lightning. However, he said that when they were ready to begin working the storm quickly passed.
