Blair County to host walk to highlight suicide prevention

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) -- In 2022, there were an estimated 1.6 million suicide attempts in the United States, according to the CDC. As a way to draw attention to suicide prevention, Blair County will be hosting an "Out of the Darkness" community walk.

The 14th annual walk, hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Eastern Pa. Chapter and the Blair County Suicide Prevention Task Force, will be held at Lakemont Park. The walk will take place on Sunday, Sept. 8, with check-in and pre-walk activities beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The walk will occur from 11 a.m. - noon. There will also be a "hope memorial" that will be displayed in recognition of individuals who have died by suicide. If you would like to commemorate a significant person, please email the person's name and photo to blaircountysptf@gmail.com by Aug. 30.
