(WTAJ) -- Boar's Head recalled deli meats last week and is now expanding the recall to more than 7 million pounds, including packaged products, over listeria concerns.
The recall comes after the Maryland Department of Health detected listeria genomes in a sample of Boar's Head liverwurst. The original nine products facing recall have expanded to 71 products that now include ham, bologna, salami and more.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is concerned that products could be in people's refrigerators and freezers. As of July 30, 34 sick people have been identified in 13 states, including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths. Samples were collected from sick people from May 29 to July 12.
FSIS reports that you should not eat the products being recalled. If you have any, it should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
