Body of man lost in Willard Bay found following multi-day search

WILLARD, Utah (ABC4) — The body of a 51-year-old man who went missing at Willard Bay State Park on Saturday has been found, according to a family member's update on social media.

ABC4 reached out to officials for confirmation and is currently waiting for a response.

Robert Mittendorf went missing just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3. According to the Utah Division of State Parks, Mittendorf had been swimming with his son near their boat when they got caught in a sudden storm. The two were separated but his son was able to swim back to the boat.

The release said Mittendorf had gone underwater and never resurfaced.

Search crews immediately began efforts to find Mittendorf, which continued until Mittendorf was found early Tuesday morning, Aug. 6. Officials said the murky water conditions complicated the search.

During the search and recovery efforts, the South Marina at Willard State Park was shut down.

In a press release updating the search efforts, the Utah Division of State Parks reminded the public to be careful when recreating in Utah's water.
