Body recovered after vehicle goes into Norfork Lake in Baxter County

BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. — A Baxter County Sheriff's Office diver recovered the body of a missing person from a vehicle that drove into Norfork Lake.

According to a press release from BCSO, the body of Darren M. Martin, 31, of Gamaliel, Arkansas, was found near the causeway inside Pigeon Creek.

On June 27 at 12:43 p.m., deputies and other responders were dispatched to an area in the Pigeon Creek area of Norfork Lake for a report of a vehicle in the lake with a man trapped inside.

After searching the lake at different access points by boat and helicopter, at 1:55 p.m., the vehicle was found 10 feet underwater. The sheriff's office diver recovered Martin's body shortly after.

Martin was declared deceased at the scene. BCSO officials said the agency's patrol division would be preparing a report on the incident.
