LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A multi-day camp in Little Rock this week is looking to help kids learn more water safety.
The Boys and Girls Club is partnering with the ZAC Foundation to provide swimming lessons and drowning prevention education from July 9 through July 12. Kids ages 6 through 9 will meet at the Thrasher Boys & Girls Club in Little Rock to learn water safety hands-on.
ZAC Foundation Program Director Alissa Magrum expanded on the main objective of the event.
"The goal is that they will improve their swimming skills, water competency skills, and they will gain water-safety knowledge through the education portions," Magrum said.
The camp's effort to teach kids safer decisions around water is a personal pursuit from the founders of the ZAC Foundation after they lost their 6-year-old when he drowned in the pool of their backyard.
Now, the organization teaches kids life-saving water tips and tricks in order to prevent a parent’s worst nightmare.
"Drownings are fast, silent, and they are preventable," Magrum said.
