Building ‘kits’ approved for new Carlsbad Veterans Memorial Park

A $1.6 million contract for three pre-engineered buildings in “kits” to be erected at Carlsbad’s new Veterans Memorial Park has been awarded to the Oregon-based company Romtec, Inc.

The 91.5-acre park in the rolling hills at the northeast corner of Cannon Road and Faraday Avenue will be Carlsbad’s largest.

The Carlsbad City Council unanimously approved the contract Tuesday. Two of the buildings will be at the memorial plaza on the northern end of the park near the entry and parking lot, an area that overlooks Agua Hedionda Lagoon and the Pacific Ocean.

One of the two northern buildings will have restrooms, a concession room, a small office, an information technology room and a small storage room. The other will have maintenance, electrical and storage rooms and an alcove for vending machines.

A second restroom structure, also with storage and electrical rooms, will be at the park’s southern plaza.

Plans, specifications and authorization to request bids for the construction are expected to go the the City Council for approval this fall. The park is expected to be completed in the late fall of 2026.

“Each structure has been carefully designed and coordinated with the surrounding landscape and site design features,” states a city staff report. “The buildings consist of natural stone walls with wood and metal accents, and a palette of natural earth tones.”
