(WTAJ)-- Senator Bob Casey and his republican challenger Dave McCormick did interviews with WTAJ about where the two stand on fracking, as the 2024 election gets closer.
While both candidates say that they support natural gas extraction in the state, they disagree on how it should be regulated. During his nearly two decades as a U.S. Senator Casey said that he has always supported fracking, as long as it is done the right way to protect the environment.
"The people have a right to clean air, pure water and the preservation of the natural scenic, historic and aesthetic values of the environment," Casey said. "That constitutional amendment goes on to say that we are trustees of the natural resources of the state."
McCormick said that while Casey says he supports fracking, he has worked to limit the energy potential of the state.
"He says things that are moderate, but he votes in a way that is extreme and liberal," McCormick said. "He's been vocally supportive of a cap in trade program. He's been in favor of stopping the Keystone pipeline. He's not spoken up in any meaningful way against the liquified natural gas ...
