City of Pharr presents $20 million check to expand Pharr International Bridge

PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Pharr announced it will be expanding the Pharr International Bridge due to its economic growth.

On Tuesday the city presented a $20 million check for the funding of the Pharr Bridge expansion.

State Senator Juan Chuy Hinojosa, successfully passed the legislation to fund $20 million from the state budget to the Texas Department of Transportation.

"The Pharr Bridge is ranked number three bridge in terms of trading commerce with Mexico for the State of Texas, so right now the Pharr Bridge is growing so fast that it increases by five percent of growth every year," Hinojosa said.

City officials say the expansion of the Pharr International Bridge will help accommodate the increase in trade volumes and have more efficient movement of goods.
