NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Weekly COVID-19 cases have dropped throughout August in New York City after a summer spike surged positive cases for months.
Cases rose in the city through May, June and July, peaking in late July, when the city reported an average of just over 1,000 cases per day.
This past week, the city saw an average of 813 new cases per day, city data show. It's a slight drop from the week before, during which the city reported 861 cases per day on average, city data show.
Still, the city's case rate remains relatively high. During the week of May 6, the city saw an average of only 220 new cases per day.
"COVID-19 is still around and poses a threat to the health of New Yorkers,” wrote the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
