MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- It’s the last call for the outdoor dining sheds.
Restaurants are required to reapply with a new design by Saturday night for the new dining outside program or the sheds must be removed.
The application essentially acts as an extension this year. The current structure can remain in place through November or must be removed after the new approval.
Ya-Ting-Liu is the city's Chief Public Realm Officer. This is described as a year of transition.
"From a temporary outdoor dining program that saved 100,000 jobs in New York City to the country's largest outdoor dining program, the applications are coming in," she said.
More than 1,800 owners have started the process as of Thursday.
Thousands of locations participated in the free emergency program set up during the pandemic.
The number of current applications has been lower than some in the industry expected. Fees based on location are part of the new requirements.
