ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Escambia County's Marine Resources Division said the removal of derelict vessels has been an ongoing problem, especially during hurricane season.
At Bell Marine in Pensacola, three derelict vessels were recently removed by Escambia County's Marine Resources Division, but more vessels are quickly becoming submerged.
Escambia County Marine Resources Division manager Robert Turpin said there are many steps that go into having derelict vessels removed as not only is the process of removal lengthy, but it's also expensive.
"It took us months to get that done, but once it's done, you know that those are removed as soon as one is done," Turpin said. "It seems like we have another."
The Marine Resources Division spent around $26,000 removing those recent three vessels from Bayou Chico.
Turpin reminds folks some responsibilities come with owning a vessel.
