The shootings occurred between August 2022 and January 2023 when suspects Scholar Wang, Frank Brower and Christopher De Arman were all shot and killed after threatening officers with weapons, according to the district attorney’s reports.
Because the district attorney found that the officers involved were legally justified in using deadly force, they will not be charged criminally.
The District Attorney’s Office also released their reviews of two other shootings that occurred in June 2020 and July 2022 in which two suspects survived their injuries and were later charged. Both men are currently serving multi-year prison sentences.
In general, prosecutors do not release their reviews of officer-involved shootings until any criminal cases surrounding the incidents have been completed.
In one case, Scholar Wang, 48, was killed by officers after he assaulted family members and then attempted to hit an officer with a metal rod at a home on Bridgeview Drive in City Heights on Aug. 23, 2022, according to the district attorney’s review.
