THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The local community is celebrating after $3.2 million in funding has been announced to develop green spaces at four NYCHA developments, including a new state-of-the-art dog park.
Four-year-old Coco Tyson, a French bulldog mix, loves to play outside and his owner Bryant Tyson says he loves all the attention. Coco was just one of the dogs who came out to celebrate the news that a state-of-the-art dog park was being built, thanks to the Public Housing Community Fund and the Helmsley Foundation.
It was back in February 2023, that PIX11 first reported on the half a million dollars in funding opening up for Castlehill residents. After some brainstorming, residents got to vote on what they wanted. One idea kept coming up again and again from the people who lived here.
Jeanette Salcedo, the tenant president at the Castle Hill houses says more than 800 of her neighbors voted and many wanted a place for their four-legged friends.
Every detail of the park was led by the residents too, even the 32 dog waste stations, each one decorated by the children of Castle Hill.
